Effect of Hurricane Sandy on the Internet as seen by RIPE Atlas

This map shows an example of the effects that Hurricane Sandy had on the Internet. For the locations where we have RIPE Atlas probes, it shows if paths towards a single destination (carson.atlas.ripe.net / AS7296 / Los Angeles,CA,US, orange circle on the map) changed after Sandy made landfall. As a reference for before Sandy made landfall we take 2012-10-29T22:00, and as a reference for the situation after Sandy made landfall we take 2012-10-30T09:00. For more background information, please read this RIPE Labs article.

For the nodes with red markers, the before-path went through New York City, the after-path not.
For the nodes with blue markers, the before-path and after-path went through New York City.
For the nodes with green markers, the before-path didn't go through New York City, the after-path did.
For the nodes with grey markers, we didn't detect New York City in the path towards the destination we measured.

When clicking a probe location, an RTT graph and traceroutes at 2012-10-29T22:00 (before Sandy landfall) and 2012-10-30T09:00 (after Sandy landfall) are shown (all times UTC).
